Farmacológica Action
Antiinflamatorio, regenerator of epitelio prostate, stimulating of its secretory function, antiandrogénico (it inhibits the 5-alpha-reductasa) (Peris ET al., 1995).
Indications
Prostatitis, benign adenoma of prostate and urinary manifestations associated.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- Infusion: spoonful of dessert by cup, two cups to the day.
- lipido-esterólico Extract: 400 to 800 mg/día, in two takings.
Etimología: Serenoa, dedicated to the North American botanist Calm Watson (1826-1892). Repens, of the Latin, means crawling, alluding to its trunks.
Description: Palm of very short or underground, turgid or crawling trunks multiple, had with fibers, that form colonies. Slapped leaves, very divided, with rigid segments of green color, or sometimes green-bluish, green-yellowish or even target-silverplated; pecíolos with small thorns. Inflorescencia being born between the leaves, with white flowers. Somewhat pear-shaped fruits, of up to 2.5 cm. in length, of bluish tonality.

The fruits of this small American palm are datilillos that are consumed from long ago in Florida, Georgia, Luisiana and other states of the Southeast of North America. It seems to be that the old indigenous settlers already knew their properties medicinal, and they even used them like afrodisíacos. Recently active principles have been discovered in them very interesting, and at the moment they enter the composition of several prepared phamacists.
Habitat: sandy dunes and coastal regions of the Southeast of the United States, mainly in Florida. Also one is in some regions of Central America.
Description: palm of about 3 meters of height, the family of the Palmáceas, with flowers of color ivory. Their about 2 fruits are drupas of cms. of length, that when they mature acquire brown or blackish color, with the wrinkled skin.
Properties and indications: the lipídico extract that is obtained from the fruits, after dissolution in greasy means, contains diverse fitosteroles, specially the beta-sitosterol; a triterpénico alcohol (cicloartenol); and alifáticos greasy alcohol of high molecular weight; all of them of antiinflammatory action on the prostate. Its mechanism of action of hormonal type, prevents the proliferation of androgens on the prostate weave.
Prostate: the use of the Sabal is very useful in case from hipertrofia or adenoma of prostate. It stops the growth of the gland and remarkably reduces the own urinary annoyances of the prostate syndrome: disuria (difficulty to tinkle), polaquiuria (necessity to often tinkle) and tenesmo vesical (permanent sensation of desire to tinkle).
