Peonol (alcohol derived from acetofenona), peoniflorina. Antocianósidos: peonina (responsible for the coloration of the flower). Tannins, oil, draw resin from, organic sugars, acids. In the seeds and the roots also peonol is present. The tubercle contains in addition starch, sugars and metarabínico acid.
Farmacológica Action
Peonol behaves like antiinflammatory, analgesic, antacid, antiulceroso and antibacterial. The paeoniflorina is sedative, hipnótico, antitusivo, espasmolítico, analgesic and slightly anticonvulsivante. The antocianósidos ones are responsible for the venotónico and vasoprotector effect.
Popularly the flowers like lax-laxative and the seeds like vomiting were used, not being recommendable these uses.
To internally avoid its prescription during the pregnancy (it can be abortion), the lactancia and to small children. Not to use like laxative (to see precautions).
Precaution/Poisonings
Plant little studied. The presence of toxic principles is suggested, not yet isolated. Elevated doses of petals, seeds or by roots can cause gastroenteritis with cólicos pains, vomits, diarrea, being able to get to be mortal by collapse cardiorrespiratorio. Poisonings in children have been described after the 3-4 ingestion petals.
We recommended not to exceed the indicated doses and to prescribe discontínuos treatments.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- Infusion: a teaspoon of coffee by cup. To instill 15 minutes. Three cups to the day.
- Dye (1:10), fluid extract (1:1) or glicólico (1:5), in healing or antivaricose creams or gels. To apply 2-3 times to the day, in case of varices, form of massage in ascending sense, preferably after a period of rest with the high legs or a bath of feet of alternating temperature.
