This species of moss is in stones by the border of the sea of western Ireland, and also of England and Scotland. It appears in the commerce like curruscante; it twisted, corneous-to watch mass, that is swollen slowly in cold water, and it almost dissolves in the boiling water. It contains a great amount of mucílago of rubber-like, with small amounts of the starch and other substances. Mucílago forms a handsome jelly, and is quite nutritious.
The decocción is done macerating half one ounce of moss during ten minutes in lukewarm water; then boiling fifteen minutes in three water dots, to make an effort, to sweeten to prove, and condimentando with lemon or some spices. This can be drunk freely. When it is used mainly for the food, milk is due to replace for the water.
The jelly is done using two ounces of moss to three water dots, adding half a sugar pound; and when milk therefore is used instead of water, manjar white pleasant and light one takes place.

Abundant mucílagos (until a 80%): carragenanas. Mineral salts.
Farmacológica Action
Demulcente (antiinflammatory, protective of the mucous); saciante, reduces the absorption intestinal of lipids and glúcidos, laxative, inmunoestimulante, antitusígeno.
Indications
Influenza, resfriados, faringitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, enfisema, asthma. Gastroduodenales gastritis, ulcers, constipation. Helping in the treatment of the overweight, hiperlipidemias and diabetes.
Contraindications
Not to prescribe forms of metering with alcoholic content for oral administration to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.
Indirect effect
At intestinal level it can interfere in the absorption of mineral salts, vitamins and other medicines, if they are administered at the same time.
Precaution/Poisonings
In diabetic patients, to control glucemia, before the possibility that it is required to fit the doses of insulin or oral antidiabetics.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- Decocción: a spoonful of dessert by cup. To boil 5 minutes, two or three cups to the day.

- Syrup (3 to 10% of fluid extract), frequently associated to other pectoral plants: one to five soperas spoonfuls to the day.
