Alkaloids (1-1,5%), of complex esteróidica structure: Group yer-veratrum: yervina (50% of the total alkaloids), veratramina and its glucósidos (pseudoyervina, veratrosina). Group EC-VERATRUM: Protoveratrinas To and B.
Farmacológica Action
It presents/displays a ansiolítica and strongly hypotensile action. Parasiticida in topical use.
Indications
Its internal use is not recommendable. (To see section of precautions).
Externally one has been used against the scabies.
Precaution/Poisonings
Its use due to the little therapeutic margin is not recommended: the medicamentosa dose is very next to the toxic one, which very hardly makes as much the plant usable, as its alkaloids.
The confusion with the genciana has caused fatal accidents.
The poisoning by vedegambre produces a blistering effect on the digestive mucous, with great sensation of quemazón, cold sialorrea, nauseas, vomits, hypotherm, sweats, diarrea and depression of the cardiac and respiratory nervous centers, which can cause the death.
Lethal dose (adult) = 2 g of plant or 20 mg of veratrina.
