This plant is used to lower the fever and to alleviate the pain belly. The cofoundation of its used fruit as tea also is recommended like effective diurético. Stimulating and it is recognized against malaises of the stomach. This species has been used from the Colony, exist testimonies that speak to us of the use of the cases dissolved in water like diurético; mixed with other plants also they have been used for the menstruation, to accelerate the childbirth, to dissipate tumors and to fortify the brain; also they have served like remedy against the ponzoñosos animal punctures.
Trepadora plant of cylindrical and fleshy stem, has accidental roots, extended, fleshy alternating leaves and shining. It has flowers of yellowish white color and its fruit is a capsule similar to a case to linear, with numerous and almost microscopic seeds. It lives in climates warm and semiwarm and it is associated to the tropical forest perennifolia and forest of encino.

Active Principles
Heterósidos: Vanillósido or glucovanilla (that hidroliza in glucose and vanillina), glucovaníllico alcohol (hidrolizable in glucose and vaníllico alcohol, that by oxidation becomes vanillina vaníllico aldehyde or). Anísico alcohol, anisaldehido, piperonal, acid p-hidroxibenzóico.
Farmacológica Action
It is a tonic general, antiseptic, digestive, colerético, slightly perfuming. Popularly it is used like afrodisíaco and emenagogo.
Indications
Dispepsias hyposecretory, disquinesias hepatobiliares, diarreas, flatulencia. It is used mainly like perfuming and flavor corrector, although she has been practically displaced by the synthesis vanilla.
Contraindications
Hipersensibilidad to the essential oil of vanilla, the one of cinnamon or to the balsam of Peru (frequently crossed reactions occur).
Except for express indication, we recommended to abstain to internally prescribe essential oils during the pregnancy, the lactancia, to smaller children of six years or gastroduodenales patients with gastritis, ulcers, syndrome of the null and voidable intestine, ulcerosa colitis, neurological disease of Crohn, hepatopatías, epilepsy, Parkinson or other diseases.
Not to administer, neither to apply topically to smaller children of six years nor to people with respiratory allergies or well-known hypersensitivity to this one or other essential oils.
Not to prescribe oral forms of metering with alcoholic content to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.
Indirect effect
Pure the essential oils can be neurotoxic and to produce contact dermatitis.
Precaution/Poisonings
To consider the alcoholic content of the flowed extract, the dye and the syrup.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- hemstitched Sugar (1:20), 2 to 8 g/día.
- fluid Extract (1:1): 30-50 drops, one to three times to the day.
- It tinctures (1:10): 50-100 drops, one to three times to the day.
- Syrup (5% of fluid extract): Two to four spoonfuls of dessert to the day.
