Essential oil (1-2%): safrol (80%), pineno, felandreno, eugenol, camphor. Tannins. Fitosteroles: beta-sitosterol. Small amounts of lignanos (fenilpropanos): sesamina. In the crust by the roots a series of alkaloids is had isolated: bencilisoquinoleínicos aporfina and several derivatives.
Farmacológica Action
Antiseptic, expectorante, mucolítico, stimulating of nervous, diurético, sudorífico, carminativo the system. In topical use: rubefaciente, analgesic. The crust by roots has an interesting analgesic effect, the antiseptic premises and pediculicida.
Indications
Influenza, resfriados, bronchitis, enfisema. Flatulencia. Popularly one has been used like purifying, to make "limpieza of sangre". Topically, in: mialgias, inflammations osteoarticulares, escabiosis and punctures of insects.
Contraindications
Hepatopatías, due to its content in safrol and alkaloids (to see precautions).
Except for express indication, we recommended to abstain to internally prescribe the essential oil during the pregnancy, the lactancia, to smaller children of six years or gastroduodenales patients with gastritis, ulcers, syndrome of the null and voidable intestine, ulcerosa colitis, neurological disease of Crohn, epilepsy, Parkinson or other diseases.
Not to administer, neither to apply topically to smaller children of six years nor to people with respiratory allergies or well-known hypersensitivity to this one or other essential oils.
Precaution/Poisonings
The toxicity of the essential oil must safrol (80% of the essential oil specially) and it is pronounced by: hypotherm, tachycardia and depression cardiorrespiratoria. Experimentally it has been verified that induces hepatocarcinogénesis in laboratory animals.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
Internal use:
- Infusion: 10 g/l, 1 to 3 cups to the day.
- Dust: 1 g to the day.
- essential Oil: 1 or 2 drops on a lump of sugar, in capsules (25 to 50 mg by capsule), two or three times to the day.
External use:
- essential Oil: pure or in form of liniments or creams, applied on the zones to treat.
