Resin (2-12%) or "podofilina": free lignanos and their heterósidos: podofilotoxina (20%), peltatinas (15%), desoxipodofilotoxina, podofilotoxona.
Farmacológica Action
Lax-laxative drastic, by irritant effect on the intestinal mucosa, increasing the peristaltismo (action similar to the one of the laxative antraquinónicos), colagogo intestinal. Antiviral. Cytotoxic and antimitóticos effects of the podofilina have been described, by it could be useful in the treatment of certain tumors.
Indications
Occasional constipation, biliary litiasis and disquinesias. In external use: warts, papilomas and condilomas, and like helping in the treatment of certain cutaneous tumoraciones.
Contraindications
Habitual constipation, pregnancy, lactancia, null and voidable colon, obstruction of the biliary routes, trombocitopenia, granulocitopenia (Peris ET al., 95).
Indirect effect
It can produce violent cólicos, with diarreas muco-sanguinolentas, nauseas and vomits and even comma and death.
Precaution/Poisonings
We recommended to prescribe exclusively for topical use.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
External use:
- Suspension of podofilino (to the 0,50-1%), in petroleum jelly. To apply topically.
- podofilino resin Solution (U.S.P.): Solution to 25% in Benzoin dye.
