Abundant starch: amilopectina (more of 80%), beta-amilosa, tropeína, mineral salts, oligoelementos, tannins. Alkaloids: heterósidos of the solanidina (plans), that appears when enverdece by solar irradiation or when germinating.
Farmacológica Action
Demucente, antacid, antiinflammatory, antipruriginoso. In pharmacy, the starches are used like helping in the tablet formulation. The alkaloids (solanina), praised therapeutically, for some years, like antineuralgic and analgesic, have been in disuse.
Indications
Gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcer. In topical use: burns, eczemas, syndromes that attend with prurito.
Precaution/Poisonings
Potential toxicity by the content in solanina of the green parts, that must be rejected: its ingestion can produce gastroenteritis, vomits, hematuria and respiratory and nervous depression.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- fresh Juice, 100-200 mililiter, 4-5 times to the day, the beginning of the meals, like antacid.
- In dust, pomada, or cataplasms, for topical use.
