Seeds of: Black mustard (Brassica nigra (L.) Kock), white Mustard (white Brassica L.), junciforme, brown or Rumanian Mustard (juncea Brassica Czern. & Coss), Chinese Mustard (Brassica cernua Matsum).
Active Principles
Abundant lipids (30%): acids oléico, linoléico, linolénico, erúcico. Sulphured compounds: Sinigrósido or alil-glucosinolato (1-2%) in the black mustard, that by enzymatic hydrolysis (mirosinasa), releases to isotiocianato of alilo or alilsenevol ("esencia of mostaza"); the white mustard contains another glicosinolato, the sinalbósido one that when hidrolizar itself releases the mustard hidroxibencil-oil). Farmacológica Action
The mustard essence has a rubefaciente and revulsiva action, mitigated highly, partly, by the presence of mucílago.
Indications
At the moment in disuse. Derivativas" was used profusely in "terapias;: treatment of inflammations osteoarticulares, muscular mialgias, contracturas, affections of the respiratory routes (bronchitis, neumonía), dismenorreas, amenorrhoea, neuralgias.

Precaution/Poisonings

Galénicas Forms/Dosage
External use exclusively (to see precautions):
- Sinapismo: flour of mustard and lukewarm water, to 50 %. To surround in a gauze. To maintain 10-15 minutes.
- sinapizada Cataplasm: to mix a part of the mustard flour with 3 parts of linseed flour, diluted in water to 40º. To apply surrounded in a gauze.
- sinapizado Pediluvio: 20-30 mustard flour g by liter of water. Specially used to fight jaqueca.
- sinapizado Bath: 150 flour g mustard in an immersed saquito in the water of a hot bath. It has been used in the rehabilitation of motor paralyses.
