- the crust contains a greasy and viscous substance; tannins.
- the flowers contain saccharose, invertina, valeriánico acid and glucósidos.
- Fruits: valeriánico acid, viburnina. Tannins.
Farmacológica Action
Used popularly like hypotension and plasmático hipoviscosizante (to "rebajar sangre"). The fruits were used long ago like astringents (antidiarréico, antiinflammatory, healing), by their tannin content. The crust produces an intense rubefacción.
Recently it has been described that the watery extract of crust, flowers leaves and fruits has cardiotónico effect (Villar, L. ET al.).
Indications
- Leaves and berries: diarreas. In topical use: hurt and dérmicas, buccal or corneales ulceraciones, blefaritis, conjuntivitis, parodontopatías, faringitis, dermatitis, eritemas, prurito, vulvovaginitis.
Arterial hypertension.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactancia, children.
Treatment with cardiotónicos.
Gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcer: the tannins can irritate the gastric mucosa, this indirect effect can be palliated associating it to drugs with mucílagos, like the malvavisco.
Indirect effect
The ingestion of fruits can cause gastroenteritis, nervous agitation, hematuria, disnea and even the death by collapse.
The crust can be vesicant.
Precaution/Poisonings
Not to apply on altered zones of skin.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
Decocción: A spoonful of coffee by cup. To boil 5 minutes. A cup to the day, in form of you cure discontinuous (one week or nine days to the month).
