Farmacológica Action
Tranquilizer, hipnótico, muscular, espasmolítico relajante, the anesthetic premises,
Bacteriostático, antimicótico.
Indications
Anxiety, insomnia, disturbances related to the feminine climacteric.
Inflammations osteoarticulares. Cleaning and disinfection of wounds. Dermatomicosis.
Although there is controversy on the mechanism of sedative action and its possible interactions, we recommended not to associate to other, antihistamine sedative, hipnóticas, antidepressing drugs. The alcohol power the toxicity of the Kava-kava (Peris ET al.).
Precaution/Poisonings
Exclusive use by prescription and under medical checkup. The automedicación or its hallucinogenic use as can produce symptoms of poisoning similar to the produced ones by barbiturates.
In the habitual consumers of kava-kava, they very frequently appear cutaneous eruptions, exageración of the reflection to patelar, thinness, reduction of the plasmáticas protein levels, urea and bilirrubina, plaquetopenia and arterial hypertension. Most characteristic it is digs-dermopati'a: dry skin and covered of grudges, specially in the palms and the plants, produced when interfering in the metabolism of the cholesterol and inducing dédicit of niacina (Peris ET al.).
In laboratory animals, high doses caused ataxia, ascending paralysis, without loss of the conscience. In greater doses cardiorrespiratorio can cause the death by collapse.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
Decocto: 3 g by cup. To boil 5 minutes. Three cups to the day, or in topical application (wounds, dermomicosis).
Fluid extract (1:1): 10-30 drops, one to three times to the day, or the extract applied locally pure or diluted to 50% (inflammations osteoarticulares).
To prescribe discontinuous treatments.
