The gallium is a herbaceous plant vivaz with rizomas very graft and stems raised and ascending ended in the apex by one panícula of very showy yellow flowers. The plant has a slight scent to honey and bitter flavor, that is more intense in the flowers that in other parts. This grass occurs of natural way in all Europe and Asia, being specially abundant in meadows, thick forests, lateral and little wild of fields. The name of cuajaleches must to the property that it has to coagulate proteins of milk.
Flowering:
The gallium blooms in June; in certain zones one says that it is indeed the day of San Juan (24 of June) when the flowering arrives at its maximum splendor. Legend or no, the case is that when blooms full the prairies of a pretty yellow color that stays the summer generally throughout. In medicine the flowery sumidades are used, that are cut when they are in the heat of flowering; later one lets them dry in aired affluent place and it does not concern too much that gives the sun them. If the drying process is made in dryer, agrees not to exceed 45ºC.
Plant little studied but of ample popular use. the following farmacológicas actions are attributed to him: appetizer, espasmolítico, antigastrálgico, diurético, "depurativo", galactógeno, astringent (vulnerario) in topical use.
Indications
States in which an increase of the diuresis is required: genitourinarias affections (cystitis, ureteritis, uretritis, oliguria, urolitiasis), hiperazotemia, hiperuricemia, drop, arterial hypertension, edemas, overweight accompanied by retention of liquids.
Lack of appetite, gastrointestinales, diarreas espasmos, lactancia, hurt.
Administration:
Infusion. A good handful is taken from fresh plant, increasing the amount in case she were already dry; they are added to a liter of boiling water. Once fry and strained, whatever can be drunk is wanted. Diurético.. - Decocción will be obtained therefore to a fast effect. 50 are prepared gr.. of flowery sumidades and they are added to a liter of water. The infusion stays during 3-4 minutes. Once cold, it is possible to be applied in form of baths or compresas on wounds, ulcers and eruptions. - Their use as cuajaleches is not absolutely clear and nowadays has better prepared to coagulate milky proteins, reason why this plant no longer is used.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
Internal use:
- Infusion: 30 to 50 g/l, three cups to the day.
Topical use:
- Decocción: 50 g/l, to boil 3 minutes, to apply in form of compresas or baths.
