Active Principles

Alkaloids of bencilisoquinoleínico type: hidrastina (that is unfolded in hidrastinina opiánico acid and), berberina, canadina, berbasterina.

Farmacológica Action

The hidrastina and hidrastinina act like vasoconstrictor of central, hemostatic, hypertensile and oxitócico origin, increasing to the tone and the uterine contractions; the berberina like stimulating hypotension and of the intestinal peristaltismo and the uterine tone. It is a bitter alcaloídico, appetizer-eupe'ptico. Empirically it is used in the cystitis treatment.

Indications

Hemorrhages postchildbirth, metrorragia, menorragia; varicose varices, hemorroides, ulcers.

Contraindications

Tensional pregnancy, lactancia, transtornos, due to the presence of alkaloids.

Not to prescribe forms of metering with alcoholic content to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.

Precaution/Poisonings

To high doses he is toxic, due to the alkaloids, causing convulsions, followed of paralysis to bulbar and to medular.

To consider the alcoholic content of the fluid extract and the dye.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage

Internal use:

- Decocción: 30 g/l, to boil 5 minutes. To take 2 or 3 cups to the day.

- dry Extract (5:1): 100-200 mg/cápsula, 1-2 to the day.

- fluid Extract (1:1, valued in 2% of hidrastina): 0,5 to 1.5 g to the day (40 gotas/g).

- Dye (1:10, valued in a 2% total alkaloids): 20-30 drops by dose, two to three times to the day.

External use:

- antivaricose and antihemorroidales Creams, pomadas, frequently in association to hamamelis, viburno or chestnut tree of Indians.
