The esclerocios.

Active Principles

Amines: tiramina, histamina.

Alkaloids derived from lysergic acid, two types:

- hidrosolubles: ergometrina or ergobasina, ergometrinina or ergobasinina.

- nonhidrosolubles:

- Group of the ergotamina (ergotamina, ergosina and his isomers),

- Group of the dihidroergotoxina (ergocristina, ergocriptina, ergocornina and its respective isomeros).

Farmacológica Action

The alkaloids of the group of the dihidroergotoxina produce a bloqueante effect on the receivers alpha: central vasodilatación, peripheral vasoconstricción (in low doses), relaxation of the neck of the uterus, diminution of the arterial tension.

Indications

Hemorrhages due to fibromas, postchildbirth, polyps. Hemicránea, paroxística tachycardia, cerebral circulatory insufficiency.

Contraindications

Pregnancy, hypertension. Incompatible with vasoconstrictores and macrólidos antibiotics, since they harness the peripheral vasoconstricción (Peris ET al., 1995).

Antidepressing treatment with IMAO: the tiramina interacts being able to trigger hypertensive crises (Farnworsth: 34).

Precaution/Poisonings

It is a very active plant: incorrect meterings, differences in the content of alkaloids, individual sensitivity to the drug or prolonged administrations, can determine cólicos, espasmos vomits, pains, deliriums and even the death.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage

One recommends the use of the alkaloids and its associations in form of standardized pharmaceutical specialties, which facilitates the metering and reduces the possibility of poisonings.
