Family: Cornáceas.

Description: Of cornus, horn, by the hardness of its wood. Shrub that measures up to 5 ms of height, of greenish crust, graft, with elliptical, opposed, simple leaves, acuminadas, shining, slightly pubescentes. The flowers appear before the leaves and are grouped in umbelas terminal. They have tridentated and corola chalice tetrapétala of yellow color. The fruit is one drupa fleshy of ovoidal form, with very hard bone, of clear green color and that it takes control red of the maturation. It grows spontaneously in the forests of all Europe, with preference on calcáreos grounds. It is collected from the spring to the summer.

Composed chemical: Corvina, tannin, malato of calcium, tánico acid, glucósido, acid málico, mucílagos, colorante substance.

Properties: Febrífugo, astringent, nutritious.

Way of use: Decocción, juice, syrup, conserve.

Note: Drupas is conserved in brine and they eat as a olives. They serve to prepare gelatins in confectionery. The wood, appreciated in tornería, is heavier than the water. From drupas one prepared aguaviva and malato of sodium, used as you leave kitchen. The seeds also provide eatable oil, although in little amount. From the crust a colorante substance for the wool was obtained. The leaves have had certain use in the industry of tannings, dice their elevated tannin content.
