This plant was a remedy used by hotentotes, settlers of South Africa, before the arrival of the targets. Their excellent virtues to fight the inflammations of the urinary organs, have caused that the buchú extends everywhere, and that can be found in many commerce of herboristería and in prepared fitoterapéuticos.

Habitat: it plants native of South Africa, that also grows up in South America. She is well-known in Europe.

Description: shrub of the family of the Rutáceas, that reaches meters both

of height. Their leaves are made oval, opposed, and slightly vellosas. All the plant comes off an aroma romero and mint mixture.

Used parts: the leaves.

Properties and indications: the leaves of the buchú contain an essential oil (diosfenol), that is its more important active principle. It acts like:

Diurético.

Urinary antiseptic.

Antiinflamatorio of the genitourinarios organs, specially of vejiga of tinkles it and the prostate.

The buchú, along with gayuba, is one of the plants more effective than they are known successfully to deal with the inflammatory diseases the urinary organs. Specially it is indicated in the following cases:

Pielonefritis (inflammation of pelvis renal and the kidney).

Cystitis (inflammation of vejiga of tinkles it): it effectively alleviates to the irritation and the pain that takes place when tinkling.

Uretritis (inflammation of uretra or "sewer of tinkles it"), or or not of venereal origin (blenorragia): it regenerates the urinary mucosa and it makes disappear the annoyances. It is effective, as much seizure in infusion, as applied in uretrales washings.

Use: infusion with about 50 grams of leaves by liter of water. 3 cups to the day interfere. Externally, washed uretrales with the same infusion in which it is applied in internal use they can make washings of uretra in case of uretritis.
