This annual plant with leaves very trimmed and vellosas has dímeras flowers whose petals of scarlet red color, have a black spot in the base. The species, common in central and southern Europe, abundantly grows on the brink of madness the ways in the incultos places.
Chemical composition
The red color of the petals must to the presence of antocianósidos (soforosil-3 cianidol) [ 15 ]. The present alkaloids in the plant - derived from the tetrahidro-3-H-benzoazepina [ 1ã, b ] - also are in the petals: roeadina, main component, is accompanied of at least other three 17 alkaloids [ ]. The content in total alkaloids comes near to 0,07%.
Farmacológicos data
The pharmacology is not known very well the roeadina and his homólogos[16 ]. The one of the poppy one has not studied, but the consumption of some preparations produces similar effects to caused by benzodiacepinas[18 ]. On the other hand, one knows that fenil-1 tetrahidro-3-H-3-benzoacepinas and their homologous ones are neurolépticos and antagonistic at level of the receivers dopaminérgicos.[20
Use
Besides to comprise of "pectoral species", the poppy is considered like antitusiva sedative and, being advised in the smaller upheavals of the dream and in the exaltación of the palpitaciones. The DL50 of the roeadina is of 530 mg/kg (rat, i.p.) [ 16b ]. The drug pulverized administered to the rat by oral route, does not reveal toxicity in the tests of acute and subacute toxicity. In Spain the use of this plant for the treatment of the insomnia is authorized, anxiety, emotividad. Benign cough.
Precautions
Due to the antocianos they can appear the lees of red color. To warn the patient.
The drug
The petals are ovoid, with the whole and fine edges. Once dried, they are of red color wine.
