Scientific Name albarraz delphinium staphisagria ALBARRAZ
Albarraz is plant of an annual, raised and robust character, that usually reaches a meter of height. Its stem is always right; their leaves, of considerable size, are resembled an open hand and appear divided in gores, although these are not equal in all of them: in the superior leaves they are whole, whereas in the inferior ones they have lobes. The number of gores oscillates from five to nine. This plant grows up preferredly in fresh and shady places. In Spain it is possible to be found in diverse places of Spain like the Balearic islands, Murcia and in several parts of Andalusia.
The flowering of albarraz takes place in summer. Their flowers, of considerable size, are of blue color and lengths are grouped in ramilletes enough; the chalice has four petals, inferior of form both both made oval and superior facilformes. The sépalos, that are five, are greater than the petals; the four of the inferior part are equal, whereas the superior one has a stock market in the base shorter than sépalo. The fruit is covered with three quite great peels and contains several simientes of black color in its interior. The seeds are collected during the autumn and later they are stored in shady place so that they can be dried.
The seeds of this plant contain more of a third of oil. In their composition also are alkaloids, between which it emphasizes the delfinina, that it crystallizes with facility and is characterized by its peculiar bitter flavor. This alkaloid produces the death by asphyxia, acting on the nervous system. Therefore, he is not advisable to use this plant without medical prescription. Their simientes do not have to be used internally.
Formerly it was very common to use it to fight the lice, by means of the reduction of the simientes to dust. Also east dust with oil was mixed and it was scattered by the place in which the lice nested. Historically other virtues have been attributed to him, like for example calming the pain teeth if it were boiled with vinegar or to cure sores if it were mixed with honey. In medicine the main alkaloid of this plant in very small doses like antineuralgic is used, mainly in face neuralgias. This plant is poisonous. It solely interests for external use - Dust. The simientes of the plant are reduced to dust and it dusts off by the zone in which there are insects. It is possible to be mixed with talc dusts to reduce the caustic action of the dust of the simientes.
Baking: They lie down in a liter of boiling water 20 gr.. of simientes and it is distributed by the place in which there are insects.
