Hepática cirrhosis

Disease characterized by the hardening of the liver and the hepáticas degeneration of celulas or hepatocitos, that lead to the loss of the normal functions of the liver.

Is cause of death in individuals in ages between the 25 and 60 years.

The process is always the same one: inflammation of the followed liver of destruction of the hepatocitos; abnormal cellular regeneration and obstruction of the operation of the gland (the liver works, simplificadamente, as a filter to crosscurrent; through a side it passes the full blood of substances in a sense and by the other the clean blood of them in opposed directions, being left a wall of hepáticas cells in the middle).

Causes

Alcohol.

Medicines (Metrotrexato, etc).

Exhibition to toxics.

Chronic infections, congenital hepatitis B and C and sífilis.

Hepática Colestasis.

Metabolic disorders, like the disease of Wilson.

Diseases autoinmunes.

Sarcoidosis.

Signs and symptoms

The most characteristic symptoms are:

Fatigue and weakness.

Liver increased of size.

Under appetite, nauseas and loss of weight.

Palms of reddened hands.

In the disease already outpost:

Ictericia (coloracón yellowish) of eyes and skin.

You tinkle dark.

Veins in form of spider, the skin.

Fall of hair.

Increase of the chest in the men.

Increase of bazo.

Accumulation of liquid in abdomen and legs.

Hemorrhages.

Diarreas sanguinolentas or blacks.

Factors of risk

Excess of alcohol consumption.

Exhibition to toxic chemical substances for the liver.

Hepatitis.

Undernourishment.

Prevention

Teetotal treatment.

Precocious treatment of the hepatitis.

To avoid toxic atmospheres.

Diagnosis and treatment

General Measures

Analytical sanguineous and urinary, ecografía and hepática biopsy.

For the study of its complications, gastroscopia, laparoscopia, angiography...

Treatment

The developed cirrhosis does not have cures.

Medicamentoso treatment, dietetic restrictions and rest.

Not to ingest alcohol.

Not to abuse proteins; carbon rich hydrate diet. Moderate physical exercise.

Medication

In order to deal with hepatitis B or C the supplements iron, diuréticos and antibiotics, can be indicated if the doctor therefore considers it.

Diet

With this disease it is advised to follow the following diet:

Diet with 20 gr.. of proteins poor in salt

Complications

Hemorrhages of stomach or esophagus.

Cancer of liver.

Envenenamiento by ammoniacal remainders.

Sexual impotence.

Prognosis

If the causes are avoided the cirrhosis it can stop.

The hepático damage is irreversible, but it is possible to be controlled the symptoms and in summary to take an almost normal life.
