Dietary fiber is defined as all food substances that our bodies can not metabolize and use for energy. All fibers are grouped into two basic categories: water soluble and insoluble in water, which is then divided into five subclasses: cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectins and gums. In the diet, insoluble fiber is typically found in wheat bran, whole grains, skin of fruits and vegetables VD and nuts. Soluble fiber, on the other hand, can be found in oats, pectin, guar gum, barley, beans and sea vegetables. The benefits of soluble and insoluble fiber in health are well documented. There are some nutrients in the fiber to be removed by the body to use, but the basic structure of the fiber passes through the digestive tract cleansing the bowel and giving more bulk to the stool. In fact, it helps the bowel to work more effectively.

More specifically, insoluble fiber absorbs large amounts of water stimulates the intestinal tract and provides gastrointestinal benefits. Soluble fiber is characteristically sticky and forms a framework with water to produce a kind of gel. Modulates blood glucose by slowing its absorption into the bloodstream. It also helps reduce high cholesterol in the blood making bile salts are conjugated, which the body breaks down more cholesterol to form more bile salts. Even acts as a chelator of toxins (eg heavy metals) in the intestinal tract.

Studies reveal that the Western diet consume approximately only one third of the fiber they need. While the authorities suggest five servings of fruits and vegetables, the average is about two. The average low-fiber diet provides only 10-20 grams of fiber a day. A few simple changes in one's diet can result in an increase in dietary fiber, including some high-fiber cereal for breakfast, rice taking more than white rice, including 2-3 pieces of fresh fruit (with skin) between meals, etc. Fiber supplements also can be used to supplement personal dietary needs increase fiber intake.
