Tyrosine:
A component of the amino sugars and amino lipids protein, which has some very important functions throughout the body. It is essential to brain nutrition because it is a precursor of the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. Also an important part of peptides such as enkephalins, which may relieve pain in the brain. It is also precursor of certain hormones, such as the thyroid and catechol (chemicals that are both estrogens and catecholamines) and the most important human pigment, melanin.
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Our daily protein needs are actually amino acids. Amino acids are classified as "essential" or "nonessential. "
Essential amino acids (histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine) can not be manufactured by the organism and must be supplied in the diet or otherwise, can cause health disorders . Nonessential amino acids are also essential for health but can be synthesized in the body for essential amino acids. Both amino acids, essential and nonessential, involved in the formation of hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters (chemical messengers), antibodies, and nutrient carriers.
The term "non-essential " can be misinterpreted. Although histidine was once considered an essential amino acid only in children, further research has determined that histidine may also be essential in adults. Arginine, ornithine, cysteine, cystine, taurine and tyrosine are classified as nonessential amino acids, but may be essential in individuals with certain diseases or nutritional deficiencies. A suboptimal intake of essential amino acids increases the body needs essential amino acids.
