Active Principles

Cumarinas: escopoletol, esculetol; acids clorogénico, málico, isoclorogénico, salicílico, salicósido or salicina (0,2%). Flavonoides (amentoflavona), essential oil; triterpenos: alpha and ursólico and oleanólico beta-amirina, acids, beta-sitosterol. Tannins (2%).

Farmacológica Action

The cumarinas confer a sedative action to him, espasmolítica similar to the one of the papaverina, although smoother, acting like antiasthmatic and antidismenorréico. Polifenoles is responsible for their diurética, antiseptic action, astringent and venotónica. The salicina provides febrífugas and antirheumatic properties to him.

Indications

Bronchial, dismenorrea asthma, varices, hemorroides, flebitis, fever, reumatismo. In external use: estomatitis, faringitis, vulvovaginitis, wounds, eczemas, cutaneous infections.

Contraindications

Not to prescribe oral forms of metering with alcoholic content to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.

Precaution/Poisonings

Although the salicylates are presents in little proportion in the plant, we advised to avoid the prescription of concentrated extracts of birch to patients with active hemorrhages, trombocitopenia or that are following hemostatic or anticoagulating treatments with.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage

Internal use:

- Decocción: A spoonful of dessert by cup, to boil 5 minutes. 2 or 3 cups to the day.

- fluid Extract (1:1): 20-40 drops, one to three times to the day, accompanied of infusion or sweetened water.

- It tinctures (1:5): 50-100 drops, one to three times to the day.

External use:

- Decocción, applied in form of compresas, lotions, colutorios, garglings, irrigations.
