Description
Often purple grass, of 60 to 120 cm. of height, dispersed hairs to lampiña. Alternating or opposite, oblong leaves, of 2 to 8 cm. in length, sawed and narrow towards the base; marginalized pecíolos, of equal shorter length that the limb or. Flowers grouped in terminal ears of up to 50 cm. in length, embedded in the armpit of the bracteas; violácea tubular corola. Including in the chalice and sunk fruit in raquis.
Fenología
It is an annual plant that under conditions of culture can become perennial.
Origin
Natural of Tropical America.
Location
Very common in all the Island, barren lands of little or medium elevation mainly in limestone grounds.
Other attributed properties
Anti-flu, antidiabetic, hypotensile, tranquilizing, abortion, antihysteric, depressing Emética, laxative, diurética, emenagogo, of the central nervous system. Hypothermal and espasmogénica activity (on ileón of cobay live).
Warnings
By oral route the decocción aggravates the induced injuries of the gastric mucosa in rats. The 100 DL50 = mg/Kg. of corporal mass (in mouse by intraperitoneal route).
Components
Phenolic compounds, phenolic tannins, catequinas, acids, cafeico and aminobutírico, quinonas, triterpenos and steroids.
Culture
It is a wild plant that propagates by seeds.
