Shrub that at first sight remembers to the grapevine by its slapped leaves and their clusters of hanging berries, of red color and bittersweet flavor. Very appreciated by its pleasant flavor and its stimulating properties.

Habitat: original of central Europe and the north of Asia. In Spain one occurs spontaneously in humid forests of the Pyrenees. Cultivated in many places, even in the American continent.

Description: nonthorny shrub of 1 to 1.5 meters of height, the family of the Saxifragáceas. Their fruits, of red color and pendants in cluster, contain several small seeds.

Used parts: the fruits (berries).

Properties and indications: the fruits contain organic acids, sugars, mucílago and vitamin G. Tienen aperitive, digestive, depurativas, diuréticas and laxative properties. The organic acids that contain (málico, citric and tartárico), stimulate secretions of the stomach and internal, facilitating and tonificando all the process of the digestion.
