Family: Cucurbitáceas.

Description: Herbaceous plant with long and crawling stem, provided with earrings. The leaves are lobuladas, deeply divided, undulated, pecioladas, tender, greenish. The flowers are monoicas: the masculine ones present/display the snaped like a bwll corola of yellowish green color, with three estambres. The feminine ones, as well, have an ovary simple to monolocular. The sometimes made oval and sometimes spherical fruits are pepónides, according to the varieties, with the smooth surface of green color or with bands blanquecinas and striae. The pulp, of red or pink color, is spongy, translucent, with abundant sugars. The seeds are very abundant, of black color, and they are including in the pulp. At the moment this species is only known cultivated in level places. It is collected when arriving at the maturation, in summer.

Properties: Eudérmica, diurética.

Way of use: Juice, pulp.

Note: The caloric content of this fruit is very low, reason why its consumption is recommendable to the obese people. The biological water has a noticeable diurética, useful action in the cases of hidropesía and renal calcosis. From the seeds an oil with hipotensiva action is obtained. The pulp masks very are used in applications on delicate skins.
