Habitat: quite common in cultivated fields and dry prairies of all Europe. Naturalized in America.
Description: it plants vivaz of the family of the Leguminosas, with rigid stems of up to 40 cms. of height, which they leave acute thorns. Their flowers are of alive pink color.

Properties and indications: the hard roots of gatuña contain ononina (glucósido flavonoide), tannin, draws resin from, starch and saponinas.
It has diuréticas and antiinflammatory properties on the urinary organs. It is indicated in the urinary cystitis, infections, renales calculations (it can dissolve them), river sands, edemas (retention of liquids in weaves) and prostate affections.
The leaves and the flowers, applied locally, have antiseptic properties and astringents. Rinsings and garglings against the tonsilitis (anginas), and in compresas, as healing are used in in case of tórpidas wounds (of difficult treatment) and ulcers of the skin.
Use: in decocción of 50-60 grams by root cut to rodajas by liter of water, from which 3 or 4 cups to the day are taken. Externally, in garglings with a 60-80 infusion grams of leaves and flowers by liter of water. Compresas with this same infusion.
