Family: Rosaceous

Place of origin: Spontaneous species in the Iberian Peninsula, Macaronesia and North Africa.

Etimología: Prunus, Latin name of the wild plum tree. Lusitanica, of the Latin lusitanicus-a-um, lusitania, Portugal.

Description: Small tree perennifolio that can reach 10 ms of stature, with the gray-dark crust. Simple leaves, ovado-lanceoladas, of 3.5-12.5 cm. in length and 2-5 cm. in width, lampiñas by both faces, something coriáceas. Margin festooned or with mucronados teeth. Paler brilliant green beam and envés and glauco. Pecíolo of 1.5-2.5 cm. in length. White flowers of about 8 mm of diameter, reunited in axillary clusters of 15-25 cm. in length, longer than the leaves. They appear around June and they are not olorosas. Ovoideo fruit of about 8 mm of diameter, lampiño, first greenish and later purple-blackish one in the maturity, on short pedúnculo. Smooth bone.

Culture and uses: Its wood is pink and it is used in ebanistería. Some exist you will cultivate hortícolas: ` Angustifoliá, ` Myrtifoliá, ` Variegatá.
