White nenúfar and yellow nenúfar (lutea Nuphar) they belong to different botanical sorts, although their properties are very similar. They are distinguished easily by the color of his flowers.

Habitat: pools, lagoons and very slow water obstacles of wooded regions.

Description: it plants vivaz aquatic, of the family of the Ninfeáceas, that is characterized by its floating leaves, with form of heart, up to 30 cms. of diameter.

Used parts: the flowers and rizoma.

Compatible species: Lutea Nuphar (L.) Sibth-Sm.

Properties and indications: the flowers and rizoma of nenúfares contain tannins and alkaloids (ninfalina and nufarina). The property of these plants that is outstanding more is the anafrodisíaca, that is to say, the one to restrain the sexual appetite, suggested by the coldness and tranquillity of the places where it grows up. With such reason it was used widely in claustros, convents and seminaries; although we do not know if with the tried result, since according to it indicates Font Quer, it can also produce the opposite effect: excitation.

At the moment, as it plants medicinal, nenúfar it is used very little.

Use: in infusion of 30 grams of flowers or rizoma crushed, by liter of water, from which 3 daily cups are taken.
