Family: Ninfáceas.

Fleshy, heavy description aquatic Plant with rizoma horizontal, submerged in the sediment, with scars of the fallen leaves. The leaves, provided with largísimo pecíolo cylindrical, circular or are made oval, solitary, acorazonadas in the base. The flowers, tapeworms, with length pedúnculo, are of pink white color, with oval sépalos and lanceolados, great oblong petals. The fruit is a submerged capsule; that it contains oval seeds. Common in pools, lakes, sources, water obstacles, marshes, etc. Its development in height depends on the depth of the water. One collects in summer and autumn.

Used parts: Rizoma and flowers.

Composed chemical: Ninfalina, ninfeína, draw resin from, tannin, starch, chlorophyll.

Indications: Anafrodisíaco, tranquilizer, parasimpaticolitico.

Way of use: Infusion, tinctures, flowed extract, distilled water.

Of interest: Rizomas with several years of age can eat given their high starch concentration. The seeds are toasted and they are used like sucedáneo of the coffee. The flowers are conserved in brine. The anafrodisíaca action seems recognized at the moment and, therefore, this species is useful in nymphomania and the genital eretismo.
