Active Principles

Polifenólicos compounds: fenolcarboxílicos lignanos (acid litospérmico), acids: caféico, clorogénico and elágico; catéquicos, flavonoides tannins (rutósido, quercetósido); shikonina (derived naftoquinónico); mucílagos.

Farmacológica Action

Diurético, antiinflammatory. The extracts of mijo of the sun produce a contraceptive, antigonadotrófico and antitiroideo effect (actions at hipofisario level).

Indications

Mammary Litiasis urinary, reumatismo, drop, hipertiroidismo, cysts, disturbances associated to the feminine climacteric, feminine infertility by increase of LH. In topical use: burns, inflammations, hurt.

Contraindications

Hipotiroidismo, pregnancy, lactancia.

Hepatopatías, by the presence of pirrolizidínicos alkaloids (Farnsworsth).

Not to prescribe forms of metering with alcoholic content for oral administration to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.

Indirect effect

The pirrolizidínicos alkaloids, in prolonged use, are hepatotóxicos, carcinogénicos and genotóxicos.

Precaution/Poisonings

To prescribe short treatments.

To consider the alcoholic content of the fluid extract and the dye.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage

- Infusion: a sopera spoonful by cup. To instill 10 minutes. Three cups to the day.

- dry Extract (5:1): 50 mg. one to three times to the day.

- fluid Extract (1:1): 10 drops, one to three times to the day.

- It tinctures (1:10): 50-100 drops, one to three times to the day.

- external Use: the seeds have been used popularly for the extraction of strange bodies in the eyes: A dry seed under the eyelid is placed, the humidity makes appear in its surface a mucilaginosa film to which the strange body adheres.
