Wild Mejorana

(Hiper) is very similar to the mejorana, although, unlike this, usually it grows wild. He is native of Oriente.medio, and was introduced in Europe in century XVI.

Habitat: spread by all Europe, in lands of average height, sunny, dry and rocky. Naturalized in the American continent.

Description: it plants vivaz of the family of the Labiadas, whose raised stems they reach up to 60 cms. of height. The leaves are small and grow in each knot of the stem, opposed to each other. Their flowers are small, of purple pink color.

Used parts: the flowery sumidades.

Properties and indications: all the plant is rich in an essential oil that contains timol and carvacrol, of sedative, antispasmodic and carminativa action. It also contains flavonoides and acid ursólico, to which their antirheumatic properties are attributed. Its use is indicated in the following cases:

Digestive upheavals: dispepsia (bad digestion) of nervous origin, flatulencia, espasmos or cólicos of the digestive organs. By his carminativa action (it fights intestinal gases), it is a good condimento for vegetables, potajes and pizzas.

Respiratory affections that attend with dry or irritativa cough, like the laryngitis (throat irritation) or the ferina cough. The oregano also has expectorante, béquica and antitusígena action, as much in internal use as external.

Dolores muscular, tortícolis and lumbago, applied externally as much in cataplasms as in frictions on the skin.

Use: as condimento their dry leaves dust off on diverse culinarias preparations. In infusion with about 15 or 20 grams by liter of water, of which a cup interferes after each food. In essence, 3 daily takings of 4 to 6 drops each one.

Externally the vapors are used, in the respiratory affections, adding a handful of plant to the water. Also in cataplasms of the crushed plant that is warmed up in the frying pan and it is applied surrounded in a cloth on the sore or inflamed zone. Frictions with several drops of essence can be made applied directly on the affected zone. For the frictions, the essence also can dissolve in alcohol.
