Description biennial Plant, with fasciculada, cylindrical root, with abundant radículas. The stem is turgid, hollow, glabro, graft. The inferior leaves are arranged in rosette and are ovadas. The superior ones, however, are sésiles, amplexicaules, uncinadas, thorny. The central nerviación takes acúleos. The inflorescencia is formed by a small apical ear of flowers of sure yellow color liguladas. The fruits are aquenios, black, of small dimensions, with the terminal vilano. Parénquima of the crust has abundant lactíferos glasses. It grows spontaneous everywhere, preferredly on, calcáreos and sunny grounds. It is collected during the flowering, that takes place at the end of the summer. It can reach and surpass the meter of height. Used parts the leaves and látex (lactuario).

Composed chemical Alkaloid chemically badly defined, acid organic and bitter substances, esters (lactucerol), lactupicrina and lactucina, alcohol, enzymes.

Way of use Infusion, flowed extract, juice.
