The leaves of this plant, of pleasant aromatic flavor, are used in Mexico like substitute of the tea, and enjoy deserved fame like afrodisíaco.

Habitat: the south of the United States, Central American Mexico and countries. One does not occur in Europe.

Description: shrub of the family of the Turneráceas, that reaches up to 2 meters of height. The leaves are small and of indented margins, clearer by envés. Their flowers are small, of bluish or yellow color, and are born in the superior foliares armpits.

Used parts: the leaves.

Properties and indications: the leaves contain an essential oil (rich in cineol, cimol and pineno), the arbutina glucósido one, a bitter principle, tannin and draws resin from. Their medicinal properties do not depend on any of these compounds in particular, but that are consequence of the combination of all of them. They are the following ones:

Nervous Tonificante: its use gives good results in case of asthenia, weakness, fisico or intellectual exhaustion and stress. Unlike other stimulants, its action is smooth and it does not create addiction.

Stimulating of the genital organs: it has been verified that produces an increase in the number and the vitality of the spermatozoa. In the woman, it regularizes the menstrual cycle and it stimulates the functions of the ovary. In both sexes it has a revitalizante effect and afrodisíaco, that unlike other stimulating sexual ones, does not have well-known indirect effect. Indicated in case of masculine impotence, precocious and espermatorrea eyaculación (involuntary spilling of semen).
