The aerial parts. Frequently one is used like substitute of the horse tail (arvense Equisetum).
Active Principles
Saponósidos: equisetósido; flavonoides, salts of potassium and silica, plans of alkaloids: nicotine, palustrina.
Farmacológica Action
Diurético, remineralizante, hemostatic.
Indications
States in which an increase of the diuresis is required: genitourinarias affections (cystitis, ureteritis, uretritis, pielonefritis, oliguria, urolitiasis), hiperazotemia, hiperuricemia, drop, arterial hypertension, edemas, overweight accompanied by retention of liquids. Consolidation of fractures; epistaxis, metrorragias.
Precaution/Poisonings
Frequently it is falsified by other species of Equisetum (palustre, ramosissimum), that are toxic, by its greater content in palustrina being able to be neuro and nefrotóxicas and to produce colitis.
Its prolonged use can produce nervous disturbances (migraine, tenesmo, anorexy, disfagia).
The use of diuréticos in the presence of hypertension or cardiopathies, only must become by prescription and under medical checkup, given the possibility of appearance of a tensional descompensación or, if the potassium elimination is considerable, an involution of the effect of the cardiotónicos.
Galénicas Forms/Dosage
- Decocción: a spoonful of dessert by cup. To boil 5 minutes. 2 or 3 cups to the day, between meals.
- Dust: 50-100 g, one to three times to the day.
