It is distinguished by its yellow flowers with 4 or 6 petals. One occurs in the south of the United States, Mexico and all Central America. It belongs to the family of the Papaveráceas like the narcotic and the poppy.
Their properties are similar to those of the opium, to which it can replace. The leaves and the seeds are used in infusion like sedatives, analgesic and against the cough. They have a slight narcotic effect. All the plant contains látex yellow that is used externally against warts.
