The fruit of papayo is one of the most appreciated between all arboreal products of America. He is not strange since it receives so many and so diverse names.
Habitat: original of Mexico, and extended by tropical regions of America, Africa and Asia.
Description: Dioico tree of 4 to 6 meters of height, the family of the caricáceas. The trunk is cylindrical, without branches, and of their superior part the fruits and the leaves are born. The trees of flowers male do not give fruits.
Used parts: látex, the leaves and the fruits.
Properties and indications: látex and the leaves of papayo contains papaína, a proteolytic enzyme able to hidrolizar proteins, releasing the amino acids that compose them. Papaína acts of form similar to the pepsina and the tripsina, enzymes contained in the gastric and pancreático juice. Also papaína comprises of diverse prepared phamacists. It is used in ortopédica surgery to dissolve the nucleus of the intervertebral disc in case of hernia of disc.
As much látex as the leaves, those who agree to suffer insufficiency of digestive juice, often due to gastritis or to chronic pancreatitis. By its vermifugal effect, they are in addition very useful against the intestinal parasites, specially the tapeworms.
Papaya, its fruit, is rich in vitamins To and C and although as soon as it contains papaína, tonifica the digestion and standardizes the operation of the intestine. Use: látex is obtained practicing incisions on the green fruits and the trunk. In infusion prepared with 30 grs. from leaves by liter, 3 daily cups are taken.
