Macromorfología. Aromatic, oval-elliptical leaves to lanceoladas, narrowed towards both ends, crenado-sawed, mainly pubescentes, of 5 to 12 cm. in length and of 4 to 7 cm. wide; flowers small, irregular, white, grouped in ears of 10 to 15 cm in length, located in the end of the branches; fruit in form of a small capsule opened in its apical end, with 4 brown seeds (figure 1). The drug appears of greenish brown color with a strong scent to timol, is composed by whole and fragmented leaves, along with portions of flowery sumidades and in fruition.

Ocimum gratissimum L., pertaining to the family of the Lamiaceas is very well-known in different American countries like wild Oregano, wild Basil, the most pleasing Basil, etcétera.1 Existen 3 rich chemical races in eugenol, timol and citral respectively, 2 in the most frequent Cuba is the race timol.

To this medicinal species a great number of therapeutic properties is reported to him. To the decocción of the leaves and flowery sumidades antispasmodic action has been verified them, in addition other properties like anti-flu, febrífuga are attributed to him, vermifugal antidiarreica and antiálgica.3 the essential oil has antibacterial activity and antifúngica.4
