Used Part

The yolks, the leaves, the crust and the resin of the white fir (white Abies Miller) or of red (the Picea abies (L.) Kars.)

Active Principles

- Yolks: Resin, essential oil: limoneno, alpha-pineno.

- Leaves: Glucósidos, piceína, essential oil.

- Crust: Cellulose, minerals, tannins, flobafeno.

- It draws resin from: essential oil of trementina, abietínico acid.

Farmacológica Action

The trementina and the essential oil confer balsámicas properties to him (expectorantes) and antiseptic, specially on the respiratory and urinary routes. In topical use, as much the essence as the trementina produces a rubefaciente and analgesic effect.

Indications

Respiratory affections: resfriados, influenza, bronchitis, enfisema, asthma (to see precautions and contraindications), faringitis, sinusitis; infections of the urinary routes: cystitis, uretritis, ureteritis, pielonefritis. The essential oil, topically in inflammations osteoarticulares and mialgias.

Contraindications

Not to administer to patients with well-known hypersensitivity to this one either other essential oils, not to apply topically to smaller children of two years nor to people with respiratory allergies.

Except for express indication, we recommended to abstain to internally prescribe essential oils during the pregnancy, the lactancia and to smaller children of six years.

Not to prescribe extracts with alcoholic content (it tinctures, flowed extract, syrup) to smaller children of two years nor to consultantes in process of etílica deshabituación.

Precaution/Poisonings

In case of prescribing the essential oil to specify that he is deterpenado and to be cautious before the possibility of irritation of the mucous and appearance of allergic reactions or broncoespasmos in hypersensible people. Of preventive form we recommended to practice a previous Test of tolerance to the application of inhalations with essential oil: to inhale during 15 seconds and to wait for 30 minutes.

Galénicas Forms/Dosage

Internal use:

- Infusion (yolks, leaves): 20 to 50 g/l, four to six cups to the day.

- It tinctures (1:5): 25 to 50 drops, two or three times to the day.

- fluid Extract (1:1): 10-30 drops, three times to the day.

- dry Extract (5:1): 300 mg, three times to the day.

- deterpenado essential Oil (to see precautions): 2 to 5 drops, three times to the day, half an hour before the meals on a lump of sugar, or in oleosa or alcoholic solution. Capsules (25 mg/Cáp., 1 to 4 to the day). Supositorios (50 mg/sup., 1 to 3 to the day). Dry inhalations. Humid inhalations (5-10 drops in 500 mililiter of hot water). Aerosols (1.2 g by each 50 cc. of prepared.

- Syrup (5% of fluid extract): 1 to 3 spoonfuls to the day.

External use:

- Baths: with infusion of yolks, or essence.

- deterpenado essential Oil: in form of liniments, ointments or emplastos.
