Amino acids are essential for health. It is the small structural components of proteins, and are necessary for the synthesis of the same in the body. Amino acids are classified as essential amino acids and nonessential amino acids, the latter are amino acids that can be manufactured in the liver from other amino acids and from materials found in our food. Essential amino acids are those that can not be synthesized in the body, but can be obtained from plants and animals.

Taurine is one of the lesser known sulfur amino acids, and can be synthesized in the body from cysteine, when it is present Vitamin B-6. Plays a number of functions in the normal functioning of the brain, heart, gallbladder, eyes and vascular system.

Taurine has many biological functions, acting as a neurotransmitter in the brain, such as stabilizing cell membranes and facilitates the transport of ions such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium.

Taurine is the second inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain in order of importance, following GABA. The amino acids alanine, glutamic acid and pantothenic acid inhibit the metabolism of taurine, while vitamins A and B6, zinc and manganese help to synthesize taurine. Cysteine and vitamin B6 are the nutrients most directly involved in the synthesis of taurine.
