Garlic - 90 Capsules - Lamberts
Allium Sativum
Description:
Has been used for four millennia as food seasoning for their organoleptic properties. Medical use also goes back to antiquity. The Egyptians provided the slaves who built the pyramids to give them strength. Ulises evaded the spell of Circe by garlic as a charm.
Main components of garlic are water, carbohydrates, fiber and fat also contains essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. The medicinal properties of garlic are related to a series of sulfur-rich compounds present in it, both water soluble. One of these organosulfur compounds is the amino acid alliin, odorless substance that when garlic is crushed, is enzymatically converted to allicin, which is the smell of fresh garlic and also has antibacterial properties clear. Allicin is relatively unstable and is transformed into different types of sulfides, sulfur oxide and other compounds such as ajoene. Garlic also contains phenolic compounds such as allixina, a type of phytoalexin.
Properties
Antibacterial and antifúngicco
Has a great capacity antibiotic against bacterial or fungal infections, because the allicin can block enzymes of invading organisms.
We have seen that bacteria such as Bacillus anthracis are sensitive to garlic. Acts such as penicillin. Even in tuberculosis: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is highly sensitive to sulfur compounds in garlic.
Allicin, one of the active ingredients of garlic, has a variety of antimicrobial activities. In its pure form has demonstrated the following properties:
• antibacterial activity against a variety of positive and Gram negative bacteria, including enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli strains resistant to other drugs.
• antifungal activity, particularly against Candida albicans.
• antiparasitic activity, even against some of the major intestinal protozoa, human parasites such as Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
• antiviral activity. The major antiviral effect of allicin is due to its chemical reaction with thiol groups of several enzymes such as alcohol dehydrogenase, thioredoxin reductase and RNA polymerase, which can affect the activity of the cysteine protease related to the virulence of E . histolytica.
Anticancer
Would have to see what level works by preventing the tumor: at preventing initiation or promotion and transformation into tumor cells.
In terms of initiation, it can be stopped to avoid the formation of some carcinogens from precursors, blocking the metabolic activation of carcinogens, enhancing detoxification processes of these compounds, kidnapping them before they can interact with genetic material, or stimulating the repair of altered DNA. It has been observed that compounds containing 2-propenyl allyl radicals, inhibited the growth of malignant tumors. It seems that one of the mechanisms involved would be an increase in activities of enzymes glutathione S-transferase and glutathione peroxidase, the first of which is related to detoxification processes carcinogens, while the second is responsible for the reduction glutathione. Increased activity of peroxidase enhanced by garlic, would be an important compensatory mechanism for regeneration of the antioxidant glutathione. On the other hand, the enzyme glutathione S-transferase is an important mechanism to inactivate type alkylating carcinogenic compounds.
As for promotion in animals has found that garlic reduces damage percent in animals treated with compounds that cause the appearance of malignant skin carcinomas. In vitro studies have shown that garlic powder decreased the mutagenic effect of ionizing radiation and certain carcinogens. In the case of transplanted tumors has been observed that garlic can slow their growth.
Studies conducted on mice Ehrlich tumor suggest that the dried garlic extract stimulates antitumor immunity by increasing T cell response against tumor cells implanted.
Immune System
Studies conducted in patients with AIDS, shows that garlic supplements ingested for 12 weeks increased the activity of both cytotoxic T lymphocyte killer cells, which can suggest that certain compounds found in garlic enhances the immune response .
Additional Properties
One component of garlic called ajoene, has a great capacity antiplatelet (similar to aspirin, prostacyclin and indomethacin), thus decreasing platelet aggregation and, therefore, is useful in preventing the formation of thrombi.
Consumption of garlic may also lower blood levels of fibrinogen (a protein related to coagulative processes), so further reduces the occurrence of vascular problems.
The vasodilatory effect of garlic may be explained as follows: garlic extract opens additional channels for potassium K +, causing a hyperpolarization of the cell membrane. This means that garlic extract is dry substances (allicin, ajoene) with properties opening K + channels. The Ca2 + channels are closed at this hyperpolarization, slowing the flow of Ca 2 + into the vascular muscle cells, thereby producing vasodilation.
It also relates to a decrease in blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. In studies it has seen a 12% reduction in total cholesterol and that this reduction is already seen after 4 weeks of treatment (4).
Therapeutic Uses
• Antibacterial and antifungal:
desirable in conditions such as thrush and athlete's foot.
• Improves the immune system, helps fight infection.
• Prevention of cancer, especially digestive.
• Reduces cholesterol levels.
• Treatment for vascular problems, reduces the formation of blood clots, dilates blood vessels, etc.
• Reduces blood pressure slightly.
Dosage
The best are supplements of garlic powder, a chemical profile very similar to fresh garlic.
• For general health or in cases of high cholesterol, take 500 mg a day, sometimes you may need to take 3,000 mg daily.
• For colds, take 500 mg four times daily.
• To candidiasis:
500-1000 mg twice a day.
Use Guide
Can be taken indefinitely and at any time.
Possible side effects
No known side effects.
Warnings:
Nor is there any contraindications for pregnant or breast-feeding
Recent research
It appears that taking garlic during pregnancy can reduce the risk of preeclampsia (hypertension and proteinuria). Studies show that garlic improves weight babies with low birth forecasts weight. These investigations were conducted by Dr. D Sooranna, Ms J Hirani and Dr I Das in the Academic Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, UK. They concluded that pre-eclampsia and growth retardation are multifactorial and complex conditions that taking garlic supplements can reduce the risk due to stimulation of enzymes that are reduced in abnormal pregnancies.
