This vitamin was first isolated from egg yolk in 1935 and is in a great variety of forms combined in both animal and plant tissues. In animals, it is stored in the liver. Biotin is produced directly by intestinal bacteria. It has been shown that antibiotics and other drugs affect bacterial production of this vitamin.
The properties of co-enzyme biotin allow metabolize carbohydrates and proteins to release the energy contained in them, and participate in the production of prostaglandins from essential fatty acids. The body uses it mainly as an aid in normal growth and development of skin, hair, nerves and bone marrow.
