Shark cartilage is composed mainly of a type of glycosaminoglycan, chondroitin sulfate.
It also contains significant amounts of calcium. Glycosaminoglycans are structural polysaccharides that form much of the intercellular matrix of mesodermal tissue (connective, cartilage, muscle, bone) and very often are attached to a protein core, forming the so-called proteoglycans. They have a great ability to attract water, which provides a cushioning effect that protects from damage and gives elasticity to the connective tissue.
Once in the body, glycosaminoglycans become glucosamine and other products. Glucosamine is an amino sugar produced naturally by the body is found in high concentrations in joint structures where it is incorporated in the connective tissue matrix of cartilage, ligaments and tendons. It also promotes the incorporation of sulfur into cartilage.
Both glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate have been widely studied. A supplement of these compounds have beneficial effects as they stimulate the production of substances needed for the repair of joints, cartilage rebuilding works and lubricating the joints to improve its performance.
By enhancing the formation of new connective tissue and cartilage, are involved in bone formation, nails, tendons, skin, ligaments, heart valves and blood vessels. They are particularly useful as a preventative in athletes who subject their muscles and joints to an ongoing effort, people prone to breakage and older people with arthritis and other inflammatory problems, joint pains, etc.. for its regenerative effect.
With age, some people lose the ability to manufacture sufficient levels of glucosamine, which has been suggested as one of the main factors for the development of osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis. Calcium is the major mineral of bone metabolism and almost 99% of total body calcium is part of the skeleton.

Horsetail contains abundant silicic salts which gives remineralizing properties and contributes to the maintenance of ground substance of connective tissue (collagen) by fibroblasts, increasing the elasticity of tissues. Silicon, along with calcium, is used by osteoblasts in bone tissue formation. Boron is a micronutrient useful in calcium metabolism. Diets low in boron show a greater loss of calcium and magnesium in the urine of postmenopausal women.
Magnesium is with calcium and phosphorus, another mineral essential in bone metabolism and approximately 60% is incorporated into the skeleton. Stimulates enzyme ALP intervening in forming calcium crystals located in bone helps improve calcium absorption intestinal level.

Shark Cartilage (Centrophorus squasmosus) 700 mg. Horsetail (Equisetum telmateia) 100 mg, 60 mg magnesium amino acid chelate, boron amino acid chelate 1.5 mg.
